TL;DR -- You are strictly better off racing with these. Details below.
I've tested these gloves extensively during training and have used them to race. I was genuinely surprised by the efficacy of the gloves, particularly considering it's impact during the race and within the confines of the new race rules. For example, the rules stipulate that you can only chalk up on certain stations and are not allowed to bring external sources of chalk. These gloves are simultaneously better than chalk and are useful in basically all stations. A few observations below:
- very light, I typically forget that I'm even wearing them. Surprisingly, this is the barrier to entry for most people (they get too warm during the race). This is a non-issue here.
- farmer's carry: I've literally adjusted my grip (with unbroken walks) during racing because of the amphibian-like grip you get. Without these gloves, you'd have to set the KB down to do this (I've tried).
- wall balls: I did not expect them to be helpful here, but was pleasantly surprised. By the time you reach that station, you're drenched (and so are the WB). Any extra grip is very useful here.
- sled pull: I've never had issues with sled pull grips since I was practicing using weathered sleds. For new sled ropes (think racing), they're extremely helpful. Also, if you're doing doubles and decide to go upper-only technique, the gloves are godsend here.
